Nerf Super Soaker Thunderstorm - Review!

Get full-auto blasting with the Nerf Super Soaker Thunderstorm!

The Thunderstorm is uses a motorized pump system. Just pull the trigger and it will automatically fire a constant stream of water! It requires 4 x AA batteries to operate (batteries sold separately).

This blaster uses the Super Soaker Water Clip system which have a water tank capacity of 300ml. Clips can be loaded and unloaded quickly by pushing the clip release button on the blaster.

The water clips also have a flexible plastic clip on their side which allow them to be attached to belts or straps.

The in-built N-Strike tactical rail and shoulder stock attachment point are compatible with Nerf blaster accessories and shoulder stocks.

Its "Uzi" style design and relatively compact form factor make for a very maneuverable blaster to use. The average firing range is around 20-25ft.

  1. Are there any (spare) clips available on sale?

  2. Oh, sorry. I wasn't looking at the updates. there are indeed refills.

  3. Is the battery compartment water tight? (can it be used in a pool without "dieing")

  4. Evan,

Yes, the battery compartment itself is fully enclosed with a rubber seal, so it is relatively "splash proof".

  5. can i check which is more powerful? Nerf Super Soaker Scatter Blast or Thunderstorm...
i see that the Thunderstorm is quite weak.

  6. Eterndreamz,

Both the Scatter Blast and Thunderstorm have similar range during firing, but in terms of volume of water, the Scatter Blast outputs more water whenever it fires, but you will need 2 hands to pump and fire it.

The Thunderstorm fires a thin stream of water, but it is fully motorized so you only need one hand to pull the trigger and fire it (therefore you could dual-wield 2 x Thunderstorms easily).

  7. I was wondering if it were possible to "silence" the motor. I see the loudness as its only huge flaw.

  8. Dude, that thing looks totally sick with a recon stock, which I happen have.

  9. i'm just curious if there are ways to give that motor a bit more power? cuz i would love to see this thing shoot further without destroying the gun itself. :D

Well, look at how the motor in the Thunderstorm works:

    http://modworks.blogspot.com/2011/02/nerf-super-soaker-thunderstorm.html

Its basically a Peristaltic pump, read how it works here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peristaltic_pump

Increasing the speed of the motor (via voltage increase mods) or replacing the motor with a faster version will increase the flow rate and the range would naturally increase.

I've tested voltage increase mods (using TrustFire Li-Ion rechargeable batteries) a while back which doubled the motor rpm, i noticed a small increase of a few ft, not really significant but shows that it can be improved.

  11. Hi SgN, so it is only splash-proof and not so much water-proof then? I'm concerned with this aspect becos when my son brings it to the pool, it'll very likely be completely submerged most of the time.

  12. ERIC,

Well, my kids have used them in water blaster games and their units have been submerged in shallow water (ie, up to 2-3m meter deep swimming pools) for short periods of time before, and the water didn't leak into the battery compartment, so i guess these blasters are okay to be submerged underwater.

Best not to submerge them for long periods of time though... not too sure how well their seals can hold up over prolonged time underwater. :)

  13. its awesome and i sneaked attacked my dad with 2 thunderstorms and my friend too

  14. I modded the thunderstorm with some marine camo and a bright LED. If you don't mind reading german, take a look at http://thunderstormmarine.blogspot.com/ and post a comment ;-)

I'll work on a sight based on a laser pointer for the tactical rail now.

  15. so if i bring it underwater (5ft ) would it still live?

  16. lockeknight,

So far it's been tested to be waterproof if submerged at swimming pool depths (ie. 2-3 meters).

  17. This thing looks great with MP5k style Iron Sights. Too bad I made them out of paper, as I always do. Anyone know if there exists modelling plastic?

  19. Hey SG,

I have a question : is the Thunderstorm the same size as the Tornado Strike (hypothetically minus the stock, barrel and pump) ?

    Thanks,

    ReplyDelete
  20. amireo,

The Thunderstorm is smaller than the Tornado Strike, just look at the scale comparisons with the Nerf Maverick.

Perhaps you can check at the dept stores around your area to purchase a unit.

Btw, this site is not a retail or commercial store... we are just hobby enthusiasts that review blasters and share info. :)

  22. Tornado strike and scatterblaster are much more powerful then thunderstorm but required two hands .if the micro held more water it has great distance and power.I have all of these and the tornado and scaterblaster are my fav.but my 4year old loves the thunderstorm very easy to use ,just get rechargeable batteries.

  24. Is that battery compartment removable? Because then it would be a good battery pack for the Nerf Stampede.

    1. Anonymous,

As you can see from the 8th photo, the battery compartment is removable... though you'll have add some wire connections if you want to use it in another blaster.

  25. bottom line is the thunder storm a good gun

  26. Can you submerge that to water? (Meaning can you use that into the swimming pool?) Thanks God bless you!

    1. Questions!,

Yes, it can be submerged into water, but don't leave it submerged for too long (ie. hours) as the waterproof rubber seal at the battery area may not hold up for that long.
